Former MLB pitcher Trevor Bauer is making waves in the Mexican League for the Diablos Rojos del México. Bauer shared a heartfelt post from his team's game against the Sultanes de Monterrey on Saturday.
Following two consecutive wins in the King Series, Diablos Rojos' search for a third on the trot was interrupted by rain. During the break, Bauer shared a picture of his parents, Warren and Kathy, cheering for the former Cy Young Winner at the Estadio de Beisbol Monterrey.
He captioned the X post with a heartfelt message:
"Nothing like seeing your mom and dad in the stands."
The game, which the Rojos were leading 1-0, was eventually called off due to persistent rain. The only run off the game was scored by Bauer's team in the fifth inning as the former Dodgers pitcher kept his opponents scoreless before rain interrupted.
Trevor Bauer's father reflects on former MLB pitcher's LMB stint
Trevor Bauer and his agent Rachel Luba tried their best to persuade MLB teams to sign the former Dodgers pitcher in the offseason. However, after failing to attract interest from major league teams, Bauer opted to play in the Mexican League, signing for the Diablos Rojos earlier this year.
While many would feel that it's a step down for the veteran pitcher, given his impressive resume as a major league pitcher, Trevor Bauer's father, Warren, said that the former MLB pitcher has never been happier to play baseball.
"This is the most fun he has had playing baseball probably since college and so I'm really happy for him because he's had a great time in Mexico. He loves the Diablos, the players, the management. He's happy," Bauer's father said during Saturday's game."
Warren Bauer also shed light on the difference in the atmosphere of the Mexican League in comparison to MLB.
The senior Bauer said that he enjoyed the games in Mexico because of the family-oriented nature and the players being under less pressure to perform compared to the intensity of games in the MLB.
The two teams meet again on Sunday, with the Diablos Rojos hoping to make it three consecutive wins in the series.
