The San Diego Padres fell to another defeat in their series opener against the Boston Red Sox on Friday night. They remain one of the worst teams in the country with a 20-25 record in the MLB so far this season.

San Diego had an impressive season in 2022, finishing second in the NL West and making it to the NL Championship Series. There, they eventually lost against the Philadelphia Phillies. They have been one of the highest-spending teams in the last few years but it has not been reflected in their performances this year.

Their latest defeat came at the hands of the Red Sox, who are themselves struggling to make a push for the postseason. It marked the Padres' tenth loss in twelve games, making it one of their worst runs in decades. Fernando Tatis Jr. was the only San Diego player to score a run, hitting a homer off James Paxton in the third inning.

Boston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers started the scoring, hitting a solo home run in the second inning. He was back at it again in the third inning, launching a 435-foot homer to extend the lead to 6-0 for the Red Sox.

The San Diego Padres struggled the entire game, with their only run coming off a Fernando Tatis Jr. homer in the bottom of the third inning.

San Diego has two more games remaining in the series to bounce back against the Red Sox. As a quarter of the MLB season has passed, time isn't exactly running out for them to make a push for the offseason, but the pressure is definitely mounting.
