Kyle Schwarber and the Philadelphia Phillies are getting ready to make their mark on the 2023 season. With everybody reporting to Spring Training, hitters are starting to get their timing down at the plate.
It looks like Schwarber is already in mid-season form, though. He took pitcher Andrew Painter deep and had a little fun in the end.
As you can see, Schwarber hasn't skipped a beat. It looks like he hasn't taken a day off since the season ended. Watch for him to have another monster year at the plate.
Kyle Schwarber hit 46 home runs last season. His offensive numbers were largely overshadowed by Aaron Judge's record-breaking year. Any other year, Schwarber would have been the talk of the league.
"Men are playing a kids game! If it stops being fun, then you are doing it wrong," one fan tweeted.
"Boys are loose," said another fan.
Schwarber has been an offensive powerhouse ever since his debut in 2015. Last season was no doubt his best yet, but it wouldn't be surprising if he has another year like 2022.
If this is his swing a couple of days in, opposing pitchers may be in trouble. It will be interesting to see if Schwarber can top his 2022 performance.
Kyle Schwarber will have to lead the Phillies until Bryce Harper returns
The Philadelphia Phillies will be without superstar Bryce Harper for at least the first part of the season. Harper had Tommy John surgery and likely won't be back with the team until the All-Star break.
Normally, when baseball fans hear the word Tommy John, they expect a player to miss at least a full year. But Harper isn't a pitcher, and he'll return as the team's designated hitter until he can throw again.
The Phillies are no strangers to having to manage without Harper. He missed 63 games last year after fracturing his thumb when a Blake Snell fastball drilled him.
It should be easier for the team to be competitive without Harper as they signed All-Star shortstop Trea Turner this winter. He's a true five-tool player and one of the best shortstops in all of baseball.
The Phillies should be capable behind Turner and Kyle Schwarber, but it won't be easy. Every team in the National League East seems to have gotten better this winter. It may be the most competitive division in baseball this season.
