Boston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers has displayed excellence throughout his eight seasons with the squad. Devers is the sole remaining player from the World Series-winning 2018 roster and has been a constant presence even though the team has had a revolving door of players in the past few years.
In the most recent edition of the Top 10 position players in the game produced by the MLB Network, Devers was selected as the second-best player in third base, bested by only Cleveland Guardians star Jose Ramirez.
The three-time All-Star had an interesting response to critics on Instagram story after claiming the runner-up spot:
"Anos tras anos (year after year)"
The Red Sox star shared a photo of his podium finish along with the caption of "años tras años," which literally means "year after year." He then added hush emojis, a sign for his haters and critics to remain silent.
Devers was placed ahead of former Astros star Alex Bregman, perennial MVP candidate Manny Machado and Atlanta's Austin Riley.
The Dominican star has compiled a noteworthy career in Beantown. Apart from his World Series ring, Devers has been selected to three All-Star teams and an All-MLB Secon Team and has won two Silver Slugger Awards.
In 2024, he produced a slash line of .272/.354/.516 with an OPS of .871 with 28 home runs and 83 RBIs.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora guarantees Rafael Devers will remain in third base
There have been several rumblings that the Boston Red Sox are courting former Astros third base star Alex Bregman.
Although the signing of Bregman would elevate the team, Red Sox fans have questioned how would manager Alex Cora fit two elite third basemen in the lineup.
In an interview with NESN, Cora quashed the worries by saying that Rafael Devers is the team's undisputed third baseman.
Cora also discussed his familiarity with Bregman, as the two shared time in the infamous 2017 Houston Astros World Series-winning team.
The skipper had proclaimed that he had visualized Bregman in second base. He said that the reason Bregman was deployed in the hot corner was to make way for Jose Altuve at second base and Carlos Correa at shortstop.
