The Baltimore Orioles faithful will expect a marked improvement from Jackson Holliday next season after a lukewarm start to his major league career this year. The Orioles posted a social media update of the 21-year-old titled 'Home for the Hollidays,' showcasing the infielder taking part in training routines at his family's private practice facility in their hometown of Stillwater, Oklahoma.
However, fans seemed more interested in the future of starting pitcher Corbin Burnes and outfielder Anthony Santander instead. Burnes and Santander were All-Stars for the Orioles this year but are available on the free agent market this year.
"Re-sign Corbin Burnes," one fan posted.
"How about ya'll bring Anthony Santander for the home for the holidays, too," another fan reacted.
"Doing everything they can to distract us," another said.
The comments continued from Orioles fans on Instagram:
"Re-signing Burnes is a no-brainer," one fan remarked.
"Need to re-sign Santander," another fan added.
"Sign someone that's actually worth the money," wrote another one.
The Orioles' Instagram post gave a glimpse of how he has been preparing for next season. It contained a video montage that started with an aerial view of the idyllic town of Stillwater and a look at the high school stadium Holliday played in.
The clip showed Holliday taking part in weight training exercises at his private gym. It also provided a few shots of him taking fielding drills out in the field and batting practice inside the cage at his family's private training facility.
Although the Instagram post from Orioles fans was focused on Jackson Holliday, fans seemed more concerned with the free agency situation of Corbin Burnes and Anthony Santander.
Burnes won a Cy Young with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2021 and has finished in the top 10 in the last five seasons. Meanwhile, Santander posted a breakthrough campaign with 44 home runs and 102 RBIs this year.
Challenging start to Jackson Holliday's MLB career
Jackson Holliday was chosen by the Baltimore Orioles as the No. 1 overall pick of the 2021 MLB Draft.
The lefty second baseman is the eldest son of former eight-time All-Star slugger and was a part of the 2011 World Series-winning St. Louis Cardinals. Ethan, the 17-year-old younger brother of Jackson, is projected to get drafted as the No. 1 overall pick next year.
Following two years of service in the minor leagues, Jackson Holliday was handed his MLB debut by the Orioles at the start of the 2024 season. However, the top-rated prospect had a poor start, lasting just 10 games in his first stint at the major leagues.
Injuries to the Orioles lineup brought Holliday back into the fold by the beginning of August. He posted better numbers on his return to keep his spot as the starting second baseman for the final two months of the regular season.
