The chase to sign Roki Sasaki for many teams included homework assignments, as confirmed in a report from The Athletic, which shared that the 23-year-old ace asked a question about his pitching mechanics to each prospective team's representative.

During Wednesday's introductory press conference with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Sasaki was asked about it, as the pitcher shared his reason for doing so.

"Because there was going to be a limited time for me to be able to understand the differences among many teams, I just felt like this homework assignment was a really good opportunity for me to be able to find out how the teams think," Sasaki said via an interpreter.

How did team representatives take on Roki Sasaki's homework assignments?

According to The Athletic, several representatives took it differently upon themselves concerning the homework assignments.

More specifically, Roki Sasaki asked each club to explain the reason behind his velocity falloff due to a vexing issue that lingered over his final season.

One of the executives found it “incredibly thoughtful.”

“The homework assignment was the presentation, basically,” said one club official.

One high-ranked club official found it "smart" on Sasaki's part as it allowed him to receive a fledged analysis of his pitching mechanics.

However, not everyone was happy with such homework assignments.

"It was a little bit like, ‘Hey, man, you’re asking for some things that get beyond that line of proprietary,'” one club's decision maker said. “It did kind of get to that line a little bit where you’re like, ‘Really?’ But you got to make a decision and then kind of put your best foot forward.”

However, some representatives told The Athletic that the pitcher was "introverted" during meetings, but was all ears when the topic changed to pitching and its analysis.

Eventually, the LA Dodgers became the place where Roki Sasaki took his talents for the next six years. The World Series champions have reportedly given him a signing bonus of $6.5 million.

This comes after Dodgers President Andrew Friedman said it took a six-year-long scouting of his talent in Japan which culminated in bringing him home this week.
