The Arizona Diamondbacks lost 10-4 against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium on Monday night. The series-opening loss also saw Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo get ejected from the game.

In the seventh inning, Gabriel Moreno was hit by a pitch from Royals’ John Schreiber. This came in response to Bobby Witt Jr. being hit earlier by D-backs pitcher Humberto Castellanos. The umpires warned both teams, but Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo got furious.

Lovullo came onto the field and argued with home plate umpire Jordan Baker, who ejected him shortly afterward. Royals catcher Salvador Perez also had a heated exchange during the confrontation.

Fans reacted as soon as the clip of the incident was shared on X/Twitter, with some discussing Torey Lovullo's anger.

“No idea why the Diamondbacks manager was heated. Clown,” a fan said.
"Literally no one gave af why was Torey so pissed," another fan said.
“Salvy was about to get busy lol,” another fan wrote.

Many other fan reactions continued, with some calling for the ejection of the pitcher due to the retaliatory hit-by-pitch.

“I’ve never seen Salvy get that mad, and I’m here for it. That’s why he’s the Captain 🫡,” a comment reads.
“The pitcher should have been ejected. It was clearly retaliatory,” another comment reads.
“Pretty sure Torey was upset that they took multiple shots at Moreno. They threw at him and missed on the 1st pitch of the AB, and you don’t just get to have target practice for as long as you want. If you don’t like it, don’t miss,” someone wrote.

The Diamondbacks' offense recorded eight hits in 33 at-bats, with four RBIs, five walks, and seven strikeouts.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo addressed the speculation about intentional HBPs

After the game, Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo candidly addressed speculation about him allowing his players to hit opponents intentionally.

“I would never, ever endorse hitting another player. I would never, ever do that. So if they felt like there was intent, they should have whacked Castellanos right on the spot. I would have been fine with that. There certainly looked like there was intent from their end, and I felt like their picture should have gotten ejected on the spot, as well,” Lovullo told reporters.

The Diamondbacks are 51-50 and third in the NL West while the Royals are also third in the AL Central but are 56-45. The teams will face each other again in the second game of their three-game series on Tuesday.
