Following the New York Mets decision to send DFA Jorge Lopez, first baseman/DH Pete Alonso was asked to comment on the incident that happened on Wednesday and the organization's decision that followed. Pete Alonso had a very erratic and inconclusive reply to the whole situation, as he said:
"I really don't necessarily know what to think. I mean its... I don't know."

Fans took a shot at Pete Alonso's pause-ridden, indecisive comments on the whole Jorge Lopez situation, expressing their backlash on X (formerly Twitter):
"Saying exactly what the suits told him to say," one fan commented
"That's a man who knows why Lopez did it and said it. But Pete can't speak about without hearing it from the team so he used his 5th Amendment," another fan commented
"That says a lot actually Pete. That says pretty much everything we need to know," yet another fan commented
Furthermore, fans lashed out at Pete Alonso and the NY Mets overall lack of leadership skills in a situation that demanded someone step up for their teammate.
"I love Pete Alonso but if anybody thought he was captain material, that ‘answer’ took him out of the running," one fan commented
"Spoken like a true leader. You can start the rebuild by trading this guy first," another fan commented
"Jeez. I’ve seen rookies with a week of big league service handle themselves better. It is a tough situation but it’s another example of the team lacking leadership and guts," yet another fan commented
Jorge Lopez clarified his outburst in Mets clubhouse from Wednesday
Jorge Lopez was immediately DFA'd by the Mets organization follwing his outburst on and off the field after he got tossed out of the game against the LA Dodgers on Wednesday.
While there was confusion between whether Lopez said "worst team" or "worst teammate," the Puerto Rican reliever shed light on his comments via an Instagram post, as he said:
"During that interview, I spoke candidly about my frustrations with my personal performance and how I felt it made me ‘the worst teammate in the entire league.' Unfortunately, my efforts to address the media in English created some confusion and generated headlines that do not reflect what I was trying to express."
Furthermore, Jorge Lopez's agent, Edwin Rodriguez, further clarified the All-Star pitcher's actions of tossing his glove post-ejection by saying:
"He realizes and accepts that what he did was incorrect."
Lopez's situation with the NY Mets is uncertain, as the ballclub has six days to decide whether to trade or release the reliever or send him outright for assignment to the MiLB.
