Gleyber Torres and the New York Yankees, coming off a sweep of the Oakland Athletics, started their three-game series with the Baltimore Orioles at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday. The Yankees bounced back after a tough start but eventually lost 5-3 to the Orioles.
However, the Bronx Bombers might have had a chance to win if not for Gleyber Torres' baserunning error in the seventh inning. With runners on second and third, Juan Soto hit a single that scored a run making the score 4-3.
Torres, who was on third base at the time, hesitated and got stuck between home plate and third base. He was eventually thrown out at home after a series of throws between the Orioles players.
Fans reacted to the moment and took to X/Twitter to vent their frustration.
“Seriously… What was Gleyber doing?” a fan said.
“I was just thinking how much better Torres was playing this month, and then... back to the same basket of mental errors we go,” another fan said.
“I want Torres off of this team so bad. He is so careless and dumb. Reckless baseball in the field and on the base paths. Part of me hopes we don’t win it this year but win it next year when he’s gone,” another fan wrote.
Several other fans continued to share their reactions blaming Gleyber Torres.
“Gleyber being Gleyber at the absolute worst time of the ballgame can't make that out there with those bats coming up huge mistake by Torres,” a comment reads.
“Gleyber man you can’t do that,” another comment reads.
“Why try and go home when the ball is already in the infield?” someone wrote.
The New York Yankees’ offense couldn’t score any more runs after Torres’ error and ended up losing to the Baltimore Orioles.

Aside from his costly mistake, Gleyber Torres had quite a good game as he recorded three hits on four at-bats with one RBI. Discussing the error after the game, Torres said (via SNY TV):
"I just tried to protect Soto. In that situation, just protect him. I was a little in between to go to home plate, I feel like I went a little late, and after that, they made me out."
Despite the defeat, the Yankees (92-65) still lead the AL East over the O's by five games. They are set to face the Baltimore Orioles again on Wednesday in the second game of their three-game series.
