After 43 years, the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers will face off in the 2024 World Series. Both teams have gone against each other in the Fall Classic 12 times before. This looks set to be one of the best World Series contests in MLB history. The series sees a titanic battle between two successful teams and two of the league's best players Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge.
So much so that the MLB insider Jayson Stark detailed how few times it has happened that the two biggest stars of the league have been put against each other in the World Series. Stark believes that the narrative of Shohei Ohtani versus Aaron Judge is bigger than any other narrative going on about this year's World Series.
"Here's the thing that I try to look at, Adnan, how often have we seen not just the two MVPs playing a World Series, but the two biggest stars in the sport meeting in their MVP prime, in their MVP season? And I really could hardly find any examples of this," Stark said.
"1946, Ted Williams, Stan Musial. 1957, Mickey Mantle, Henry Aaron. 1968, the year of the pitchers. There were two pitchers, Bob Gibson, Denny McLain. And 1980, Mike Schmidt, George Brett. And you might be able to make a case that [Shohei] Ohtani versus [Aaron] Judge is bigger than any of those," he added.
Tom Brady expresses his excitement for Dodgers vs. Yankees matchup
Former NFL quarterback Tom Brady is excited to witness the heavyweight clash between the LA Dodgers and Bronx Bombers. Brady has made quite a name for himself in the NFL with 10 Super Bowl appearances and seven victories, and he is favoring the Yankees in this contest.
Brady talked about how the star-studded the 2024 World Series is going to be, especially with Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge on each roster.
"I'm rooting for a seven game series," Brady said on MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM. "I don't know if I'm rooting for anyone, but it's pretty great when the Yankees win it. What a great series, Shohei Ohtani, Aaron Judge, you've got all the stars. This is one I think a lot of people are going to be watching, I can't wait to watch."
Brady has often put forth his thoughts when it comes to the MLB, even back in the 2020 World Series between the LA Dodgers and Tampa Bay Rays. Even then, Brady didn't favor the Dodgers, as he backed the Rays since he played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the time.
Game 1 of the 2024 Word Series takes place at Dodger Stadium on Friday.
