The Washington Nationals have made the final move of 2024 as the year comes to an end by re-signing free agent Trevor Williams. The right-handed pitcher entered free agency after spending the past two seasons with the Nationals.
On Monday, the club announced they had re-signed Williams to a two-year, $14 million contract. This past season, he had a solid performance for Washington, posting a 6-1 record with a 2.03 ERA, 59 strikeouts and a 1.04 WHIP.
Several fans took to Instagram to praise the Nationals' move, with some eagerly awaiting official confirmation of the team’s signing of Josh Bell:
“Great move! He was off to a hot start last year so it again in 25 man!” a fan said.
“Like this signing very much. Trevor was excellent last year!” another fan said.
“I’m just waiting til we get the josh bell post,” one fan added.
According to reports, the Nationals have signed first baseman Josh Bell to a one-year, $6 million contract for the upcoming season. While the team has officially announced Trevor Williams’s re-signing, fans are still awaiting confirmation of Bell’s contract.
Meanwhile, some fans took to Instagram to demand the Nationals sign free agent Alex Bregman:
“GET BREGMAN,” one comment read.
“Now sign Alex Bregman and we hella back let’s go nats,” another fan wrote.
“Stop cheaping out and sign Bregman, there’s no excuse for payroll to end up the same as last season,” a fan added.
According to ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel, the Nationals are rumored to be a potential landing spot for Alex Bregman. The two-time World Champion posted a .260 batting average with 26 home runs, 75 RBIs and a .768 OPS last season.
Trevor Williams opens up about his bond with Nationals following 2024 season
After his final start of the 2024 season, Trevor Williams opened up about his strong connection with the Washington Nationals:
“This is a tremendous team. I’ve grown to love these guys in the clubhouse. I’d love to be a part of this team that wins another World Series here,” Williams said via MLB.com.
Williams was coming off a two-year, $13 million contract he inked with the club in December 2022. Before joining Washington, he played for the Miami Marlins, Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs and New York Mets.
