The Tampa Bay Rays will be without starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow for at least six to eight weeks. The flame-thrower is dealing with an oblique strain that he sustained during a live batting practice session.

This is a tough setback for someone who had Tommy John surgery in 2021 and missed most of the 2022 season. He only threw two games for the Rays during the regular season and had one postseason start.

Besides Tommy John surgery in '21, Glasnow also had arthroscopic surgery on his ankle last March. It was a minor procedure to remove loose bodies from his right ankle.

Glasnow having to miss some more time is the last thing Tampa Bay Rays fans want to hear. The team will need him to be fully healthy to contend for an American League East title.

"Scrap the season," one fan tweeted.

Some are concerned that he'll miss more than just six to eight weeks as oblique injuries are tough to recover from. It's a frustrating injury that, if not rehabbed properly, can linger.

The Glasnow injury is going to be something fans should keep an eye on. It will be interesting to see if he can return within the timeframe.

The Tampa Bay Rays often get overlooked because of the division they play in and because their roster isn't full of stars. But this team shows up and beats expectations nearly every season.

They have an incredible coaching staff. Every year, they have a pitcher in their organization that just dominates out of nowhere, like Shane McClanahan did last year.

Outside of pitchers, they have a very capable lineup. Randy Arozarena, Jose Siri and Manuel Margot are an excellent trio of outfielders. Arozarena is coming off a career-high 32 stolen bases. With bigger bases this season, watch for him to run every chance he gets on the basepaths.

Another player to watch out for this season is Wander Franco. He didn't play up to his potential last season, but he's starting off spring training well. He went 3-for-3 with a home run in his first Grapefruit League game.

Don't be surprised if the Rays give the New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles a run for their money.
