Texas Rangers star shortstop and reigning World Series MVP Corey Seager left fans in dismay after he exited the game in the fifth inning against the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday night. With two outs and a full count in the top of the fifth inning, Orioles starter Cade Povich threw a nasty inside ball to Seager as it was planted in his left wrist on the check swing.
Seager immediately went down clutching his left wrist, as Rangers manager Bruce Bochy and medical staff rushed to the field to check on their lefty ace. He got up and left for the away team dugout at Oriole Park in Camden Yards.
Take a look at the incident here:
Fans immediately voiced their stress over the incident. Some didn't even hold back from lashing out at the Orioles organization on X, formerly Twitter.
"Orioles are dirty and doing this way too often," one fan commented
"Orioles do this to everyone interestingly," another fan commented
"Baltimore of course. Every team it’s their opponents best player," yet another fan commented
Other Rangers fans voiced concern over Corey Seager's injury and besides giving their respective takes on the extent of the damage, a few of them lashed out at the lack of a batter's wrist and hand protection during game days.
"The absolute last thing we needed. What the hell bro," one fan commented
"That does not look good. No meat covering the bone to protect it in that spot," another fan commented
"They have elbow guards, the helmets have been modified, ankle guards, mittens for the bases, but really nothing to protect the wrist or hands," yet another fan commented
Corey Seager has been one of the more consistent hitters for the Texas Rangers this season. While the organization has not made any official comments regarding the extent of the injury that he sustained on Saturday night, they will be hoping that nothing is too serious with the ace shortstop's left wrist.
Corey Seager has produced fairly decent numbers in offense so far this season for the Texas Rangers
Corey Seager has produced decent offensive numbers for the Rangers alongside Marcus Semien and Adolis Garcia. Seager is currently hitting with an average of .260, with 15 home runs, 37 RBIs, and an OPS of .796.
His health and continued hitting momentum at the plate will be crucial for the Rangers' World Series defense this season, and the organization will be hopeful that he hasn't sustained too much damage to his left wrist in the ongoing series against the Baltimore Orioles.
