On Saturday, Juan Soto opened the New York Yankees scorecard with a solo moon shot in the first inning against the Chicago White Sox at Yankees Stadium, joining Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton as the third Yankee to have 10 home runs this season.
The White Sox had the first lead with Andrew Benintendi’s RBI. But Soto’s home run evened the score in the same inning for the Yankees. On top, Giancarlo Stanton contributed a RBI to give the Yankees a lead in the game.
Yesterday, Soto went 1-for-4 without a RBI or run. So, he wasted no time today to impress the Bleacher Creatures in his first at-bats. The Yanks fans are overjoyed with Soto’s performance and picked social media to urge their team front office to offer him a long-term extension.
"The perfect yankee," a fan commented.
"HAL EXTEND HIM NOW," a fan replied.
"He'll be extended whether it's during season or off season," a fan tweeted.
He also scored a RBI in the second with a single. In the fifth inning, Juan Soto went yard with a solo home run to give the Yankees a 6-1 lead. Soto is 3-for-3 with three RBIs, two runs, and two home runs in the sixth inning.
"I’ve seen enough. He is worth way more than Ohtani!!," a fan replied.
"Blank check RN," a fan commneted.
"Let’s go @Yankees pay the man and extend him he’s just what we need," a fan tweeted.
If the Yankees (31-15) win against the White Sox, it’ll be their 32nd victory of the season. They are leading both the AL East division and the American League with the most wins.
Superagent Scott Boras termed Juan Soto as “Special”
According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Juan Soto’s agent Scott Boras has high hopes for his Dominican All-Star client. Soto is set to become a free agent (for the first time) after this season if the Yankees don't offer him a befitting deal.
“In a phone conversation, Boras did not have to oversell Soto, who has assimilated to the Yankees spectacularly. Boras simply said, “I would just use the word ‘special.’” Sherman reported.
Additionally, on the “Yankees News and Views” podcast, hosted by Jack Curry, Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner hinted at an interest in discussing an extension for Juan Soto.
“Always happy to talk to Hal,” Boras replied in a text message.
The extension talk is on hold. It seems unlikely that the Yankees will give up a promising star after a single season. However, with growing interest from various teams, Boras may encourage Soto to enter the free market for better deals.
