With the MLB trade deadline now upon us, the stretch between now and the end of September will have massive implications around MLB. As such, players will be doing all that they can to try and give their club a winning edge.
Today, using betting odds provided by DraftKings Sportsbook, we will be profiling the top MLB DFS picks for July 29. Keep reading to determine which stars you might want to back on Monday.
Top MLB DFS Picks - July 29
Pitchers
Paul Skenes ($10500 on DraftKings)
Monday will mark Paul Skenes' second start since he became the first rookie pitcher to start an All-Star Game since 1995. In his first game since the break, against the St. Louis Cardinals on July 23, Skenes tossed eight strikeouts in 8.1 innings, allowing just two earned runs, but was still credited with the first loss of his MLB career. Heading into Monday's affair against the Astros, Skenes is 6-1 with a 1.93 ERA.
Logan Gilbert ($9600 on DraftKings)
With a team ERA of 3.35, the Seattle Mariners rank first in MLB in the category. The jewel of that rotation has been Logan Gilbert. Currently, the club leader in innings pitched, strikeouts, WHIP, and ERA, Gilbert is 6-6 with a 2.72 ERA. The 27-year-old Gilbert also has 26 strikeouts in four career games against the Red Sox, who will serve as Seattle's opponent on Monday.
"Logan Gilbert, Wicked Sliders." - Pitching Ninja
Nick Pivetta ($8500 on DraftKings)
The Red Sox will call upon Canadian starter Nick Pivetta for their game against the Mariners. Despite being chased after just 2.2 innings in his last start against the Colorado Rockies, Pivetta tossed six scoreless innings in his start before that against the Dodgers. Now 4-7 with a 4.50 ERA on the season, Pivetta's fourteen strikeouts over the past two weeks lead his club.
Top Hitters
Bobby Witt Jr ($6400 on DraftKings)
Few hitters have been as prolific since the end of the All-Star break as Bobby Witt Jr. The Kansas City Royals shortstop's .513 average over the past two weeks is the highest in MLB, and the 24-year-old has 2 home runs and 8 RBIs in his last ten games.
Ketel Marte ($5600 on DraftKings)
Nobody in MLB has bested the 11 RBIs hit off of Ketel Marte's bat over the past week of play. The only member of the Arizona Diamondbacks to punch his ticket to the 2024 MLB All-Star Game, Marte has shown his credentials once again in the desert this year. A .296/.365/.535 hitter this season, the 23 home runs hit thus far by the 30-year-old put him on pace to surpass the career figure of 32 that he launched in 2019.
"Corbin Carroll and Ketel Marte go yard to open up a lead for the @DBacks" - MLB
Lane Thomas ($5000 on DraftKings)
Although he is hitting for considerably less power this season, Washington Nationals outfielder Lane Thomas has seen his bat warm up of late. Despite being a .253 hitter on the season, Thomas has hit .287 with 6 RBIs since the first of the month. While his 8 home runs are a far cry from the 28 he hit last year, Thomas has a career .245 average with 4 home runs and 7 RBIs in 18 games against Arizona, who will be the Nats' opponents on Monday.
Budget Picks
Juan Yepez ($3300 on DraftKings)
Since the end of the All-Star break, Juan Yepez has been at the center of Washington's offense. After the Venezuelan was promoted to MLB on July 5, he has hit .368/.381/.632 with 2 home runs and 12 RBIs in his past ten games, and recently recorded six RBIs in his team's recent series with the Cardinals.
"Not getting tired of juan yepez being CLUTCH and GOOD" - Washington Nationals
Alex Verdugo ($2700 on DraftKings)
The New York Yankees are slated to arrive in Philly on Monday after winning their weekend series against the Boston Red Sox. Yankees outfielder Alex Verdugo went 7-for-15 in the series, picking up a pair of doubles and an RBI against his former club.
TJ Friedl ($4000 on DraftKings)
Nobody can deny that TJ Friedl's season is not going as planned. The Cincinnati Reds outfielder is hitting just .208 with four home runs. However, against the Chicago Cubs, Monday's foes, Friedl has hit .266 with 5 home runs and 13 RBIs in 25 career MLB games against the divisional counterparts.
