MLB DFS Picks - Oct. 24, 2024
Pitchers
Jack Flaherty ($11400 on DraftKings)
Former Cy Young contender Jack Flaherty will take the mound for LA. In his 10 starts since arriving in LA via a deadline move with the Detroit Tigers, Flaherty went 6-2 with a 3.58 ERA. Although Flaherty was hammered in his last start, the one before that saw the Burbank native go seven scoreless innings in the first game of the NLCS.
Gerrit Cole ($12000 on DraftKings)
Gerrit Cole will make his first World Series start since October 2019, when he pitched for the Houston Astros. In the 2024 postseason, Cole is 1-0 with a 3.31 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 12.1 innings. In his career against the Dodgers, Cole is 4-2 with 41 strikeouts in 46.2 career innings.
"Gerrit Cole is currently 1 of 4 pitchers with 20+ postseason starts to have a sub 3.00 ERA." - Baseball Reference
Top Hitters
Giancarlo Stanton ($8400 on DraftKings)
Giancarlo Stanton's 1.179 OPS thus far in the postseason leads the New York Yankees, who led MLB in homers during the 2024 MLB season. He's also the provider of a team-leading 11 RBIs in the postseason, and his four home runs and seven RBIs against the Guardians in the ALCS were instrumental to the Yankees advancing.
"The redemption of Giancarlo Stanton has been fun to watch. He delivered when the lights were bright." - Stirrups Now!
Shohei Ohtani ($10000 on DraftKings)
After a somewhat lackluster NLDS against the San Diego Padres, Shohei Ohtani came alive in the NLCS against the Mets. In that series, the two-time MVP hit .364/.548/.636 with two home runs, six RBIs and nine walks.
Budget Picks
Anthony Volpe ($5800 on DraftKings)
On the face, Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe has not been as obviously potent as other bats on his team, but his numbers are nevertheless solid. The winner of a Gold Glove as an MLB rookie last season, Volpe has hit .310/.459/.345 in the postseason, with eight walks and a team-best two steals.
"Anthony Volpe, the 23 year-old shortstop. Homegrown in the system. Right smack in the middle of the biggest rally of the Yankees season. What a postseason thus far for Volpe." - Chris
Will Smith ($6000 on DraftKings)
Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Will Smith has only hit .158 this season, but the Kentucky native has come up with some big hits when needed. In addition to touting two homers and six RBIs this postseason, Smith has the lowest number of strikeouts of any bat in LA's top six.
