Jordan Romano won't be participating in the World Baseball Classic, which is set to begin on March 8. The Toronto Blue Jays closer has withdrawn from team Italy. Instead, he'll be with the Blue Jays in Spring Training, working towards getting ready for the MLB season.
He's just one of the latest players to have withdrawn from the WBC. Luis Castillo announced on Wednesday that he wouldn't be participating either. He, like Romano, will be with his team, the Seattle Mariners, in Spring Training.

It's unfortunate but expected. With the tournament being so close to the start of the MLB season, a lot of players don't feel comfortable participating. On top of that, many front offices around the league are always weary of letting their stars go and represent their home countries.
The report left Toronto Blue Jays fans confused. They were concerned that something may have been wrong with their closer.
"OK, you can't just leave this hanging. Personal preference? Imjury? Playing for Canada? Leaves lots of questions" one fan said.
"Hope he is okay" said another fan.
Fans don't know if Romano was hurt or if he was choosing to play for Team Canada. Romano was eligible to play for Team Canada or Team Italy in the World Baseball Classic. His family is Italian, but he was born in Canada.
Other fans have pointed out that Romano may just be saving himself for the MLB season. They're okay with that, as the Blue Jays have some high expectations coming into 2023.
The World Baseball Classic will be intense

If you are a baseball fan, this upcoming World Baseball Classic is going to be something that you don't want to miss. It's incredible every time they host the tournament.
Team USA are the defending champions. They won the last tournament, which was held in 2017. This year's tournament was supposed to be held in 2021 but was pushed back to this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
If Team USA wins the tournament again this year, they'll tie with Japan as the only two teams to have won multiple WBC titles. They'll have their work cut out for them, as every team has enough talent to make a deep run.
It will be interesting to watch this year's tournament. Can Team USA repeat and tie Samurai Japan for most WBC titles?
