Team Italy's gun outfielder Dominic Fletcher was on the money as he grabbed a brilliant flyball while running behind the wall. However, his team went down 2-0 to Panama in their third game of the World Baseball Classic.
Dominic Fletcher took the catch in the top of the sixth inning with two outs on the board for Panama. The first base was loaded, which meant that had he missed the catch, Panama would have completed a single RBI. The ball was hit deep in right field. Fletcher ran behind and stuck out his hand and took an incredible catch before heading toward the wall.
The catch saved a crucial run, however, and Italy's batting lineup had a scoreless game. Panama scored two runs, one in the second inning and another in the seventh inning. Jose Ramos hit a single home run off a fly ball to left field first before Allen Cordoba scored a single RBI in the seventh.
The win will take Panama to the second spot in Pool A for the time being as they move to a 2-2 record. Italy, meanwhile, is behind the .500 mark as they lost their second game in three outings. They still have to face the hosts Chinese Taipei before clashing against the Netherlands in the last match of the Pool tomorrow.
Dominic Fletcher's expected call-up to the Majors for the Diamondbacks
With the 75th overall pick in the 2019 MLB draft, the Diamondbacks had selected OF Dominic Fletcher. In 290 minor league games, Fletcher has hit 32 HRs, 156 RBIs, and has an OPS of .825. In 2022, he played for Amarillo Sod Poodles and Reno Aces, both minor league teams affiliated with the Diamondbacks.
He is known for his superb fielding skills and will be looking up his game in the batting department as he looks to be called to the majors.
