After winning Monday's series opener against the Chicago Cubs 6-2, the Philadelphia Phillies (93-64) have captured the NL East for the first time since 2011. That's a long time coming for a team that has had deep postseason runs in the last few seasons. They beat the New York Mets (87-69) and the Atlanta Braves (85-71) for the title.
The Phillies have become the second team in the NL to claim a division following the Milwaukee Brewers, who captured NL Central last week.
Special moments call for special celebration and none other celebrated this feat more emphatically than seasoned veteran and Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper. The former NL MVP went topless while opening a bottle of champagne in celebration.
As Harper was trying to join in on the champagne shower, a Phillies apron-wearing Garrett Stubbs was enthusiastically spraying his champagne around while being doused by his teammates.
The topless Harper eventually got his turn to be in the middle of the shower, as shown by some pictures of the Phillies' celebration posted on MLB's official Instagram page.

On Monday, Phillies ace Aaron Nola pitched for the win, going six innings for just two earned runs and seven strikeouts. He got the required support from the offense, which went deep twice in the game, courtesy of Kyle Schwarber and JT Realmuto.
Winning the division was one of the priorities for the Phillies this season, as they now won't have to go through the Wild Card round.
“That was our main goal in spring training, to win the division and get that first-round bye,” Bryce Harper, who went 2-3, said per the Washington Post. “Do all the things we can to kind of set us up for the postseason. The division was the first thing.”
“Being able to come home and do it here, in front of the best fans of baseball, in front of a fanbase that showed out for us each night, it was just a lot of fun,” Harper added.
Now that the goal for the regular season is accomplished, the Phillies stars are looking forward to another deep postseason run, possibly ending their World Series drought since 2008.
“We know there’s a really big picture ahead of us,” Schwarber said before the game. “Winning the division is a big thing. If we go out there and do our thing tonight, it’s going to be well deserved. It’s not an easy division to win. It’s never been an easy division to win. It definitely will be a cool thing.”
The Phils still have a lot left to play for in the regular season. Acquiring the top playoff seeding over the Los Angeles Dodgers will give them the home-field advantage in a possible NL pennant clash. For now, the team is soaking in its 12th division championship.
