Carlos Mendoza and Aaron Boone shared a hug before the Subway Series between the Mets and Yankees

The Subway Series between the New York Yankees and New York Mets will kick off on Tuesday night in Flushing, Queens. The Mets will play host to their cross-town rivals for an important matchup between the two franchises. Although there may be some bad blood or tension between the two fanbases, the same cannot be said about the two team's managers.

Prior to the beginning of the Subway Series, former colleagues Aaron Boone and Carlos Mendoza were seen in a brief exchange in which the two managers shared a hug. Even though the two teams will battle over the two-game series, Boone and Mendoza worked together with the New York Yankees from 2018-2023.

Before taking over as the manager of the New York Mets this season, Carlos Mendoza served as the bench coach under Aaron Boone. The pair spent several years together, so it is understandable if tonight's Subway Series action was extra special for the two managers.

The Subway Series will catch both teams heading in opposite directions

Entering Tuesday's action, the New York Mets are one of the hottest teams in baseball. The Mets have been tearing it up at the plate lately, posting an impressive 8-2 record over their last 10 games. After a dismal start to the season, the Mets find themselves slowly climbing out of the hole they dug early on in the year.

On the other side of the field are Aaron Boone's New York Yankees. The club has been heading in the opposite direction, with the Bronx Bombers posting a disappointing 3-7 record over their last 10 games. Injuries to key players such as Giancarlo Stanton, Anthony Rizzo, and Clarke Schmidt could have something to do with the team's struggles recently.

The reason why the Subway Series comes at an interesting time of the season is the fact that the New York Mets have an opportunity to sweep their city rivals. Had this occurred earlier in the season it would have likely been a sweep by the Yankees, however, Carlos Mendoza's crew might be able to steal two games from Boone and company.
