The Arizona Diamondbacks lost 3-8 to the Detroit Tigers on Saturday, losing the series on their home turf in Arizona. They are one game away from getting swept by the Tigers. The game also witnessed a heated exchange between Torey Lovullo and Jack Flaherty

The D-backs were holding a 2-0 lead till the sixth inning. Zac Gallen prevented the opposition from scoring. However, in the seventh inning, Gallen gave up three runs to the Tigers. That blew their lead and the Diamondbacks were unable to recover from that.

Diamondbacks Torey Lovullo was seen going back and forth with Tigers' ace Jack Flaherty. The duo were involved in what seemed like a heated argument from across their respective dugouts.

Flaherty pitched six innings, conceding five hits and earning two runs against the Diamondbacks hitters. That two-run lead was the difference until Gallen and the D-backs blew it up in the seventh. Additionally, the D-backs bullpen was ineffective in managing the situation, allowing the Tigers to extend their lead to 6-2 in that inning.

Joe Mantiply, who replaced Gallen after two outs, was unable to close the inning and gave up three more runs before Justin Matinez replaced him. In the eighth inning, K. Ginkel earned two more runs, extending the Tigers' lead to 8-2.

Torey Lovullo expressed his “tough” night following the Dbacks’ setback

In the post-game conference, the D-backs skipper shared about the rough night. Despite having an initial lead and holding for more than half of the game, it was upsetting for him to lose it this way.

“This is a tough loss, we had a lot going in our favor, Zac was throwing the ball extremely well and we got into that 7th inning, I liked the matchups with Zac in that part of their lineup, and they just continued to grind him down,” Lovullo said.

Lovullo initially refused to comment about the words altercation between him and the Tigers’ Jack Flaherty. However, Lovullo shared that there’s more story behind than what’s on screen.

“Trust me, what happened there, what you guys saw … wasn’t the first thing that happened. I can hold serve on one thing, but we felt like there was more than just that situation that popped up and I’d had enough,” he added.

This marked Lovullo's team's 25th defeat of this season. The World Series runner-ups are struggling to hold their game. The Dbacks (21-25) are in fourth place in the NL West, only above the Colorado Rookies (15-30).
