After a series break due to left forearm inflammation, one of the New York Yankees' standout players, Juan Soto returned to play against the Kansas City Royals. The Yankees won the game 11-5 at Kauffman Stadium, marking their 49th victory of the season and their second road series win this month.
During the game, Soto got walked twice and scored three runs. In the seventh inning, Royals' pitcher Daniel Lynch IV threw a wild pitch that hit Soto on the shoulder. It seems like Lynch aimed to throw an inside pitch, but it didn't break enough and hit Soto. Fortunately, Soto was unharmed and took his base, although he looked a little displeased.
Missing the important series against the LA Dodgers was a setback for Soto and the Yankees, and they are keen to avoid any further injuries, especially at the mid-way point of the season.
Juan Soto has been performing remarkably this year, with 53 RBIs, 55 runs, and 17 home runs in 66 games for the Yankees. His slash line of .317/.432/.593, a 1.025 OPS, and 51 walks demonstrate his exceptional ball-seeing ability and the opposition's reluctance to face him directly.
Juan Soto remains optimistic amid a potential injury concern
The Yankees are leading the league with their 49-21 season record, and Juan Soto has played a significant role in this successful campaign. He has boosted the team's outfield as well as strengthened the offense by being positioned in front of Aaron Judge, creating more scoring opportunities.
After exiting early from the Yankees-Twins game on Thursday, Soto returned to the lineup on Monday as the designated hitter. Despite a potential injury concern, he remained positive about his condition and hopes to continue playing for the rest of the season without any worries.
“[It went] pretty good,” Soto said, via MLB.com. “I know I was DHing, but got to see a couple pitches out there, take some hacks. I felt pretty good.
“I have been doing a lot of treatments, I’ve been feeling good and I’ve been seeing a lot of improvement. It’s definitely not going to go away that quick. We will keep working on it and doing a couple things for the next week and see how it goes after that. It’s all about the next day.”
Tonight, he returned to his original position in right field, joining Judge and Alex Verdugo in the outfield. Both the fans and the club want Soto to stay with the team until the end of the season, as he is one of the core players for the Yankees this season, and an injury could disrupt their plans and also affect negotiations regarding Juan Soto's future with the team.
