During Monday night's game against the Washington Nationals at Chase Field, Arizona Diamondbacks play-by-play announcer Steve Berthiaume had a major goof-up. The experienced announcer apparently misinterpreted a T-shirt's print while talking about some fans enjoying themselves at the ballpark.

Near the warning track, a few baseball fans were spotted cheering for their respective teams during the live broadcast. One of them was wearing a one-of-a-kind T-shirt with the print saying, "I can't, I'm Mormon." However, somehow Berthiaume read it differently, as he rather thought that it was "I can't, I'm a moron."

"All right, I found my new favorite T-shirt ever. The guy on the right, 'I Can't I'm a moron' there it is on tape and everything," Berthiaume said during the live broadcast.

Dalton Feely from Jomboy Media shared the clip on social media, which went viral in no time.

What Steve Berthiaume interpreted as "moron," was actually written "Mormon," referring to a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, founded by Joseph Smith in 1830 and accepting the Book of Mormon.

"Poor Steve, I'm so sorry": Fans react with all kinds of reactions as Steve Berthiaume's misinterpretation goes viral

Netizens on social media were quick to jump on this misinterpretation by Steve Berthiaume with different types of reactions.

Few thought that it wasn't funnier, while others hilariously made religious references. Many were feeling sorry for Berthiaume, who was getting trolled online by some users.

"Poor Steve, I'm so sorry 😂," one fan wrote.
"If he said it on purpose, is it funnier?" another wrote.
"Well, he’s not wrong," another added.

A few made some religious references and trolled Steve Berthiaume.

"Joseph Smith punching air rn," one quipped.
"Buddy loses his job tomorrow 😂," another wrote.
"Those words are synonymous," another user commented.

The 56-year-old baseball broadcaster has been calling games for the Diamondbacks since 2012. During his time with ESPN, he previously called College World Series matchups.

As far as Monday night's contest between the Nats and the D-backs is concerned, the home team won the game 9-8 after Diamondbacks hitter Corbin Carroll scored five runs to register a walk-off victory in front of the home crowd.
