A new version of baseball has everyone buzzing, as the Tri-City Chilli Peppers' original approach to the ballgame has received great support. Chris Martin, owner of the Chilli Peppers of the Coastal Plain League, is the brains behind the 'Cosmic Baseball' version.

In 'Cosmic Baseball', the games are held at night under 18 500-watt black lights that illuminate players' specially manufactured gear. The first game of this kind was played on June 1 at Colonial Heights in Virginia, as the Tri-City Chili Peppers and Greenbrier Knights faced off against each other.

Martin initially doubted that the idea of playing under black lights would work. In his own words:

"I thought [the idea] was dead, to be honest with you. I didn't think it was going to happen anymore. [They] came back to us in September and said 'hey, we've got the black light, come check it out.' It was everything I thought it would be and way more." [H/T ESPN].

'Cosmic Baseball' comes to reality: Special lights, vendors, special gear and more by Tri-City Chilli Peppers

To bring the idea to life, the Chilli Peppers collaborated with lightning companies to install black lights at Tri City's Shepherd Stadium. JW Electric, Federated Lighting and Sonaray eventually helped make it possible.

The challenging part for Chris Martin and the team was making this concept work. They started by spray painting baseballs, contacting Tucci Limited to design wooden bats and finally the uniforms.

Colors ranging from pink, green, yellow and orange were first considered to glow in the dark. However, they finally settled on pink and neon green and tasked 3N2 Sport with manufacturing the uniforms.

"Everyone's saying 'oh, that looks horrible,'" Martin said (via ESPN). "We ended up just pulling the trigger and saying 'you know what, let's do it, we're running out of time.' We went with these pink and yellow pinstripes which turned out really good and has been the most popular seller so far."

Finally, the concept was turning into a reality, and the only thing that remained was to test everything in practice and receive feedback from players. Initially, it took time for Tri-City Chilli Peppers players to get settled in, but they started to get comfortable with it as they practiced more and more.
