The Los Angeles Dodgers earned a 7-6 win over the New York Yankees on Wednesday night in Bronx to clinch their eighth World Series title. In a comeback win for the ages, starting pitcher Walker Buehler turned into a reliever to finish the job in the ninth innings.

The Yanks were hot out the blocks, racing to a 5-0 lead with none outs in the third innings. Aaron Judge, Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Giancarlo Stanton all went yard. It seemed at that point that the series was going back to Los Angeles for Game 6, something that would have been first for a World Series where one team had trailed 3-0.

However, the Dodgers turned it around with a five-run fifth innings. They were helped by a number of errors in the New York defense. Judge dropped a catch early on in the innings before shortstop Anthony Volpe had a throwing error. Gerrit Cole and Anthony Rizzo had some miscommunication while trying to get the final out, and LA capitalized.

The final 3.1 innings were pitched by Blake Treinen and Walker Beuhler, both of who had major injuries and missed the 2023 season. Treinen has been one of the best relievers in the postseason, while Buehler had made appearances as the third starting pitcher for LA. He closed out the game with a strike out of Alex Verdugo.

As Buehler got the final strike, Dodgers players and staff rushed to the field to celebrate with him. The joy on their faces reflected their incredible achievement after a long and tiring season.

Walker Buehler sums up Dodgers' comeback victory

In the post-game interview, Walker Buehler acknowledged that the hallmark of their performance in the entire season has been never giving up. He said that it's their team's merit and will to win that kept them in the hunt to take Game 5.

“There’s just a lot of ways we can win baseball games,” Buehler said. “Obviously the superstars we have on our team and the discipline, it just kind of all adds up."

The last time the Dodgers won a World Series, they couldn't celebrate with their city. In 2020, the World Series parade had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They finally get that chance after four seasons.
