When told that he had just done something historic and unprecedented, Aaron Judge brushed it off. The New York Yankees slugger became the first player to hit 11 home runs and 12 doubles within a 20-game span, but he's not concerned with that so much since there's still quite a bit of season left to play.
"It's May," Judge said. "We got a lot of work to do. Lot of games to play, so we gotta keep working ... That's true, but I don't like to look at the past. I'm focused on what we did today and today we went out there and got some runs early against a great pitcher."
Aaron Judge was asked about his dismal start to the season. At one point in April, he had a .179 batting average.
"It's part of it. It's a long season. There's going to be bumps and bruises, good times and bad times," Judge said. "I think the most important thing is staying focused and trying to improve every day.
"I can't get caught up in what people are saying or what they're not saying. I got a job to do, especially in New York, you gotta show up every single day. I wasn't showing up so I understand."
Judge has been on a torrid pace since that low point of the season. But now, his stat line is the most impressive in all of baseball.
Aaron Judge continued rolling in San Diego
Aaron Judge led the charge to get to Dylan Cease, a potential NL Cy Young candidate this year. He blasted a two-run home run off of him in the first inning and then doubled and scored later.
That helped the Yankees continue their hot stretch and Judge his one. The Yankees scored 11 runs against Yu Darvish and Dylan Cease and limited the San Diego Padres to one run in two games.
Judge's incredible season is one to marvel at. He is firmly back in the MVP race with a 3.3 fWAR (second in MLB to Bobby Witt Jr. by 0.1) and a 191 wRC+ (second in MLB to Shohei Ohtani's 192).
