Why is Juan Soto called Childish Bambino? Uncovering the story behind the young Dominican star's nickname

Juan Soto is looking to guide the Dominican Republic to a World Baseball Classic title

Few players in the MLB are as talented and entertaining as Juan Soto. The 24-year-old slugger from the Dominican Republic has not only become one of the best players in the league but one of the most accomplished.

Throughout his five seasons in the majors, Soto has already won a World Series title, been named to two All-Star teams, won a National League batting title, and won three Silver Slugger Awards. There seems to be little that Juan Soto cannot do on the baseball field.

The slugger's talent and dynamic style of play has led to Soto earning the nickname "Childish Bambino". The name comes from a combination of uber-talented Donald Glover's rap name "Childish Gambino" and Babe Ruth's "The Great Bambino" moniker.

"Behold my new designs of Childish Bambino himself, Juan Soto dropping today in my Friar collection. Please share. #Padres #Soto" - @Jeremy_Nash

The nickname works wonders for Soto, who, much like Donald Glover and Babe Ruth, is a game changer. Similar to "Childish Gambino," the young All-Star outfielder brings a unique style and energy to his profession. Gambino's style and lyrics are unlike any other successful rapper today.

The connection to Babe Ruth, at least in Juan Soto's eyes, is because he believes he is the best player in the game. It's hard to deny the upside and raw talent of Soto, which, when combined with his confidence, makes the "Bambino" part of the nickname fitting. Thus, meet "Childish Bambino".

Juan Soto will look to bring the San Diego Padres their first World Series title this coming season

For the majority of the season last year, there was talk in the league about which team would land Soto in a deal with the Washington Nationals. The team ended up being the San Diego Padres, who made a blockbuster deal to secure the incredibly talented slugger.

The deal that brought Juan Soto to San Diego saw several top prospects move the other way, including Mackenzie Gore and CJ Abrams. The pieces acquired by the Nationals will help the team move forward as the 2019 World Series champs have entered a full-on rebuild.

"If Ruiz goes for even just a like .750 ops year, this could be CJ Abrams at this time next year, I LOVE THIS! Buying out Arb years for 1 or 2 FA years. Absolutely ecstatic about this" - Austin Kinder

Soto will be one of the key members of the star-studded Padres roster this coming season. He will be joined by other superstars Manny Machado, Fernando Tatis Jr., and Xander Bogaerts.
