The New York Yankees and the Kansas City Royals started the third game of their ALDS in Bob Costas's presence at the TBS broadcast booth. Costas has garnered a lot of attention through his commentary, but not in a good way.
Several times during his commentary, the sportscaster went off-topic, which fans didn’t enjoy. This was evident in the eighth inning, when Vinnie Pasquantino hit a soft line drive, and Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe caught it just past the infield.
Bob Costas got overly excited, expecting it to be a big moment for the Royals. However, the hit turned out to be an easy catch for the Yankees, making Costas’ excited commentary feel out of place for such a simple play.
"Line drive base hit to center field. It was smothered out there... I don't know if it was caught. Oh my gosh. What a play," Costas said.
Several fans took to X to share their reactions, with many criticizing Bob Costas.
“He is the worst human to call sports live ever,” a fan said.
“He’s so bad at his job bro,” another fan said.
“Wonder which team he wants to win?” another comment reads.
Many other fans continued to troll Costas:
“Costas was more excited for Witt single than Stanton go ahead homer. 🙄,” a comment reads.
“Bro said 'It was smothered' when it was clearly a catch lmao,” another comment reads.
“how bad the broadcasting has been this series 👽,” someone wrote.
The New York Yankees ended Wednesday's game with a 3-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals.
Yankees achieved a 3-2 victory over Royals, thanks to Giancarlo Stanton’s go-ahead home run
The Yankees took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on Giancarlo Stanton’s RBI double off Royals pitcher Seth Lugo. Juan Soto extended the lead in the fifth with a sacrifice fly off Lugo, allowing Anthony Volpe to score.
The Royals countered by scoring a run in the fifth on Kyle Isbel’s RBI double off Yankees pitcher Clarke Schmidt. Shortly after, they tied the score at 2-2 when Michael Massey hit an RBI triple.
However, Giancarlo Stanton hit a 417-foot solo home run in the eighth inning, leading to the Yankees' victory over the Royals. The Yankees, now 2-1 after their victory, will face the Royals again on Thursday at Kauffman Stadium in Game 4 of their ALDS.
