The New York Yankees have been busy all offseason revamping their roster ahead of the 2025 campaign. Even though the club is coming off a disappointing World Series loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the front office has remained one of the most active teams this offseason in the hopes of not only returning to the World Series but securing their first title since 2009.
The team has already made significant strides toward building a championship roster ahead of the new season by adding the likes of Max Fried, Devin Williams, Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt. Even though they have expressed interest in acquiring other players in both free agency and on the trade market, the Yankees are also trying to sell off one of their high-price veterans.
According to MLB insider Bob Nightengale, New York is looking to offload veteran pitcher Marcus Stroman and his $18,000,000 contract ahead of the new season. Despite having a successful MLB career, Stroman has struggled to make an impact with the Bronx Bombers and has seen his role diminish.
This may not come as a surprise given the salary that Stroman is set to make in 2025. While the New York Yankees may need to get creative in order to facilitate a deal, fans across the league are unsurprised to see Nightengale's report of the team looking to move him.
"Good luck. Nobody wants that dude," one fan posted online.
"Please get rid of this guy! I don't like him at all!" another fan shared on social media.
"Please please please get off my team. Heard the Mets like our scraps, give him to them," one more fan added.
Even though it was a bit of a down season for Marcus Stroman in 2024, he was an All-Star the year prior. Last year for the Yankees, Stroman posted a 10-9 record with a 4.31 ERA and 113 strikeouts over 154.2 innings of work.
Stroman has been a solid starter throughout his career. However, his numbers in 2024 did not live up to the two-year, $37 million deal he signed with New York.
"$18M… Yankees always overpaying," one fan shared.
"Good luck with that. Another bad Cashman contract," another fan posted.
"Hahaha y’all gave him the contract," one more fan added.
The New York Yankees have been linked to a different All-Star in the trade market
Although New York general manager Brian Cashman and the rest of the front office are looking to move off of Marcus Stroman, it has not stopped them from continuing their pursuit of additional reinforcements. The club has been linked to three-time batting champion Luis Arraez as the San Diego Padres are reportedly looking to lower their payroll ahead of the new season.
The Padres will likely not want to add Stroman's contract to their books, so it would be unlikely that the veteran pitcher would be included in any potential trade. Nevertheless, Arraez is the type of player who the Bronx Bombers could use heading into 2025. Even after all of their moves, the Yankees are not done yet this offseason.
