Friday will mark the kick-off of the penultimate series of 2024 between the New York Yankees and the Baltimore Orioles. The two teams, who have seen a considerable amount of one another so far this season, will be aiming to enter next week's All-Star break on a high note.

Set for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch from Baltimore, this will represent the third of four series between the two clubs. When the two AL East clubs last met at Yankee Stadium in mid-June, it was the O's that emerged victorious, outscoring the Bronx Bombers 26-15 in the series to take two out of three games.

With just two games separating the trailing New York Yankees from the O's, defending Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole will get the ball for New York. Now 1-1 on the season, Cole is sporting a 6.75 ERA since returning from the IL last month. Cade Povich will start for the Orioles. Povich is 1-3 with a 6.51 ERA on the season.

Yankees vs Orioles Prediction

The New York Yankees pull into Baltimore having just endured a humiliating series defeat at the hands of the Tampa Bay Rays, and with a team average of .222 since June 11, have been the second-worst hitting team in baseball over that period.

However, the Orioles are coming off a sweep at the hands of the Chicago Cubs and will need to rely on struggling rookie Cade Povich. For Cole, who has 98 strikeouts in 13 career games against Baltimore, this game represents an excellent opportunity for the ace to pick up his second win of the year.

Prediction: New York Yankees: -1.5 (+140)
