Although the Los Angeles Dodgers won the series 2-1 against the Kansas City Royals, they still have faced a huge blow in the form of an update on Yoshinobu Yamamoto's injury situation.
Yamamoto started Saturday's game against the Royals but had to leave just after two innings as he felt tightness in his tricep. Following this, he was placed into a 15-day IL by the team.
Journalist Kirsten Watson reported that Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts has shed some light on the $325 million Japanese star's current situation as he revealed that the pitcher has suffered a strained rotator cuff and will be out for quite some time, although it's not going to be for the entire season.
"Dave Roberts said that Yoshinobu Yamamoto has a strained rotator cuff, added that it’s not season-ending, but it will take time to heal."
Roberts and team would surely not be happy to miss out on one of their top pitcher's services for quite some time as they move forward in the season. The team and its loyal fans would surely hope to see Yamamoto back on the mound, completely fit, as soon as possible.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto shares his thoughts on his early exit from the Royals game due to tricep tightness
Yoshinobu Yamamoto opened up about his early exit from the Royals game on Saturday after he felt tightness in his tricep. The player shared that this tightness has been persisting for quite a few days, although he said he didn't feel it when he started the game on Saturday.
"Yes, I was feeling it, a couple days ago. But today that was gone, that tightness was gone. So today I was out, as during the game I started feeling tight. My tricep was tightened up. So I let coaches know and then we decided. During the pregame, I did feel a tiny bit of tightness. I was communicating with my coaches about that… I did have tightness and I was very aware but it wasn’t that serious at that point.”
Yamamoto has been in decent form since the start of the regular season. The 25-year-old Japanese flamethrower has played and started 14 games so far this season, with a 6-2 record, an ERA of 2.92, a WHIP of 1.07, and 84 strikeouts. Losing a player of his caliber for quite some time will be a problem that the Dodgers would want to address as soon as possible.
