Former Chicago Cubs star Sammy Sosa was born in the Dominican Republic and his last game was in 2007.

Sosa's career ended quietly because (as per his request), he did not participate in the last regular-season game (which was played in Chicago), and he reportedly left Wrigley Field before the game was over.

However, Sosa once shared his desire to return to Wrigley Field. In 2018, Sosa said:

"If one day I come back to Chicago, I'd come back for the fans," Sosa said. "I owe those people something."

Sammy Sosa's only desire was to be welcomed into a stadium that he helped to consistently fill for many seasons. He put in a lot of effort every day, which won over many baseball fans.

Sosa's parents instilled in him the idea that he shouldn't work for a team that he disliked. Sosa had a soft spot for the Cubs, but it didn't appear like he supported the team's management. Sosa indirectly made fun of the Cubs by saying:

"I was playing for a company many years ago, it was the Tribune Company, so after I retire I formed my own company, so I'm not looking for a job.
"When I call somebody the first thing that I say is, 'I'm not looking for a job. Just called you to say hello.' So I have my own company, I'm comfortable."

Sosa yearned for the affection he experienced while stunning Cubs supporters with his play.
