The last season LeBron James missed the NBA Finals, was Tyronn Lue's first season of his coaching career. He was picked up by the Boston Celtics before the 2009-10 season as the director of basketball development, mainly for his relationship with Doc Rivers, who was his coach while he was playing for the Orlando Magic back in 2003-04.

A year later, however, he joined the Cavaliers as one of the league's highest-paid associate head coaches.
