Senegal become the third country from Africa to qualify for the 2014 FIBA World Cup which is going to be held at Spain. Senegal beat the hosts Cote d’Ivorie 57 – 56 to finish third in the 27th AfroBasket.
Senegal lost the first quarter to the hosts Cote d’Ivorie 09-16 but fought back to win the second quarter by 23-08 points to take a four points lead going into the half-time break.
Hosts Cote d’Ivoire took the third quarter 19 – 11 to drew level as it took a 7-0 scoring run to even scores at 43 points apiece going into the last quarter which the Senegalese Lions won by a single point margin of 14-13 points.
Mohamed Diop lead Senegal with 11 points to help his team qualify for the 2014 FIBA World Cup.
