Germany suffered their second loss of the championship against Great Britain on Day 5 of the ongoing 2013 EuroBasket at Ljubljana, Slovenia. Following their 88 – 83 loss to Ukraine in DAY 3, Germany faced yet another defeat as they lost to Great Britain, 81 – 74. Although Germany took the first quarter 23 – 16, it was Great Britain who took control of the game. Great Britain took the second quarter 26 – 15 while Germany won the third quarter 17 – 18. But Great Britain took the match away from Germany by wining the last quarter 22 – 18. Andrew Lawrence top-scored with 23 points for Great Britain while Tibor Pleiss was top-scorer for Germany with 20 points. With the loss, Germany now lies in 5th spot of Group A while Great Britain are in the 3rd position in the group.
In another unlikely result on Day 5 of the championship, Finland defeated Russia, 86 – 83. With the win, Finland booked their spot in the second round of the 2013 EuroBasket for the second time in the history of the European Basketball Championship.
With a day’s matches remaining in the preliminary round of the championship, the top three teams from each group will qualify for the next round of the championship.
