2014 FIBA World Cup draw announced; Group A is Group of Death

The draw for the FIBA 2014 Basketball World Cup

The draw for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup was held in Spain yesterday with hosts Spain, Egypt, Iran, Serbia, Brazil and France drawn in Group A, which has been widely considered as the Group of Death.

Defending champions and No. 1 seed USA have been drawn in the relatively easier Group C while third seed Argentina is in Group B, and fourth seed Lithuania in group D.

The 2014 FIBA World Cup will take place in Spain from 30 August to 14 September 2014.

Group A (TO BE PLAYED IN GRANADA)

  1. Spain
  2. Egypt
  3. Iran
  4. Serbia
  5. Brazil
  6. France

Group B (TO BE PLAYED IN SEVILLA)

  1. Argentina
  2. Senegal
  3. Philippines
  4. Croatia
  5. Puerto Rico
  6. Greece

Group C (TO BE PLAYED IN BILBAO)

  1. USA
  2. Finland
  3. New Zealand
  4. Ukraine
  5. Dominican Republic
  6. Turkey

Group D (TO BE PLAYED IN GRAN CANARIA)

  1. Lithuania
  2. Angola
  3. Korea
  4. Slovenia
  5. Mexico
  6. Australia

The Preliminary Round will be played in Bilbao, Gran Canaria, Granada and Seville (30 August-4 September). The Final Round will take place in the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona and in the Palacio de los Deportes of Madrid (6-14 September).
