2014 NBA Draft: Big Board Pre-season - Top 5

The 2014 draft class is the most exciting class of players since the 2003 class of LBJ, Melo,Wade and Bosh and may even be deeper, so this is the pre-season version. Once college games are played, I will update it week by week – feel free to leave your agreements and disagreements

1. Andrew Wiggins

Freshman, Kansas (Huntington Prep HS). Some call him the Canadian LeBron. They may not be too far off; this kid can seriously play. Teams are dumping good players just for a shot at this guy. Here is his hoop mixtape:

2. Jabari Parker

Freshman, Duke (Simeon HS Chicago). Out of the Same high school as Derrick Rose, this kid has a serious game and a quiet type of attitude – very comparable to Kevin Durant at the small forward position. Plus, he won four straight state titles at Simeon. Here is his hoop mixtape:

3. Marcus Smart

Sophomore, Oklahoma State. Many thought if he had come out of the school and to the draft, he would have been the number one pick. He simply dominated his freshman year at the point guard – he can pass it, drive himself, and is earning some Derrick Rose comparisons for his ability to attack the basket. He also has a bigger frame at 6 ft 4, making him at an advantage physically against some NBA PG’s. Here are his freshman highlights at Oklahoma State

4. Aaron Gordon

Freshman, Arizona (Archbishop Mitty HS CA). This small forward is the most explosive player coming out next season. He has earned comparisons to Blake Griffin for his dunking ability – I say he’s better than that – he may end up being one of the greatest dunkers of all time. Furthermore, his ability to finish and explode from the small forward has teams salivating to get him. He also uses this explosiveness on the defensive end for crazy blocks. Here is his hoop mixtape:

5. Julius Randle

Freshman, Kentucky. Randle is a 6 ft 9 power forward who can handle the ball and drive it in, much similar to Anthony Bennett, this year’s number one pick. The difference is Randle is leaner and has an easier time getting to the basket, and with a much higher vertical, has an easier time getting rebounds – scouts think he can handle the power forward in the NBA, but feel he will end up a small forward due to his ability to handle the ball.
