Remember this game. About a decade from now we’ll look back at this one as being the breakout party of Poonam Chaturvedi. She played a combined 9 minutes and 44 seconds in our last two matches. Well rested, she played all 40 minutes today and scorched Hong Kong for 32 points on 16 of 23 shooting. Add 17 rebounds and 3 blocks to that. Mind boggling efficiency rating of 40. Equally impressive, Sharanjeet Kaur had a triple double with 16 points, 16 assists and 11 rebounds.
Being 6 feet 8 inches tall, Poonam adds a invaluable post presence to our lineup. And its painfully excruciating to have to draw conclusions based on numbers and not be able to watch our teams in action. In this day and age, if initiative is taken it won’t be much of a stretch to get the videos. I’ve looked online in depths of Chinese live streams, on official websites, in forums, and there’s no sign of this tournament that I could get yet. If anyone can drop a suggestion/link it’ll be greatly appreciated.
We had 54 points in the paint and 20 second chance points. Our trend of cut-throat defense continues as this is the third opponent whom we held under 35% shooting in this tournament. Another area where we cut down tight, rebounds. Three of our players played the entire 40 minutes and had double digit rebounds. Along with Sharanjeet Kaur and Poonam Chaturvedi, Jeena Skaria PS played all 40 and had 8 points and 15 rebounds.
Our next match was scheduled to be vs Uzbekistan, but that is a bye from their end, so we are automatically awarded a 20-0 victory bringing the win streak up to 4. Next match will be vs Sri Lanka at 10:30 AM IST on 3rd October.
