It has been a decade that the Japanese women’s basketball teams haven’t beat Koreans but the 10-year drought came to an end at Bangkok, Thailand when Japanese beat the Koreans 78 – 71 in the overtime stunner in the day 3 of the 25th FIBA ASIA Championship for Women. Japan took the first quarter 24 – 20 while Koreans took the second quarter 14 – 10 to level the score going to the halftime break. After the break Japan took the third quarter 15 – 13 but Koreans took the last quarter 22 – 20 to force the match to the over time (OT). In the OT, it was Japanese team at it’s best and took the 9 – 2 to win the match by 78 – 71. Ramu TOKASHIKI netted game-high 27 points for Japan while Yeon Ha BEON netted 17 points for Koreans.
In other level 1 matches of the championship, China trashed South Asian neighbors India 97 – 36 and Chinese Taipei defeated Central Asian representative Kazakhstan 87 – 57.
