Perhaps one of the biggest, if not the biggest surprises of the 2024-25 season is the Cleveland Cavaliers jumping ahead to be the best team record-wise (27-4). The Cavs are higher in the standings than the stacked Boston Celtics squad that won last year's title and maintained every member of their core. They are also arguably better than any team in the West.

If there's one thing that's known about team success in the NBA, it's that no one reaches these levels without multiple All-Stars. However, it might seem that some justification needs to be made for why the Cavs deserve to have several of their players make this year's All-Star team.

Here's a closer look at some reasons why Cleveland deserves multiple All-Stars.

3 reasons why Cavaliers deserve multiple All-Stars

#1. Sustained success deserves to be rewarded

Some will argue that winning in itself is a reward. However, in a league where personal accolades and awards determine salaries, simply having the best record isn't enough for some of the top stars. Realistically speaking, none of the Cavs' players are MVP candidates, not even Donovan Mitchell.

As such, the best reward for this team is for several of their players to be named as All-Stars. This becomes especially true if they can sustain this level of winning until mid-January which is when the voting closes.

Besides, it's not like it'll be the first time that a team is rewarded with multiple All-Stars under the merits of team success.

#2. Donovan Mitchell alone isn't responsible for this success

Yes, Donovan Mitchell is the explosive leader of the Cavaliers offense. However, to think that getting the top record in the league is because of him alone is a mistake. They are the best offensive team and the numbers prove that.

They have the highest field goal percentage (50.6%), the best 3-point shooting (40.9%) and the highest offensive rating (121.7). Ratings that Mitchell alone cannot accomplish.

The Cavaliers have made it difficult for opposing defenses to contain them and that is because they have several All-Star caliber guys on offense.

#3. Evan Mobley's numbers justify an All-Star selection

Donovan Mitchell is a given and one can argue that Darius Garland is due for his second All-Star selection. But who else should be named an All-Star for the Cavs? Enter Evan Mobley.

This season, Evan Mobley is putting up the best scoring numbers of his career. He is averaging a career-high 18.8 points per game while draining 43.7% of his 3-pointers, both career-highs.

Additionally, the Cavaliers' big has increased his attempts from beyond the arc. After averaging only 1.3 attempts from downtown in his first three seasons, he has upped it to 2.4 this year. Finally, he has continued to lock down the paint with 1.4 blocks per game.

These numbers alone should prove that he is worthy of an All-Star selection. However, if this needs further justification, then just look at some of the less-justifiable selections in the past.

How about Chris Kaman in 2010? His numbers were somewhat similar to Mobley's, just without the perimeter shooting (18.5 ppg, 9.3 rpg and 1.2 bpg). Or Tyson Chandler in 2013? The Knicks went on to win 54 games that year but Chandler only averaged 10.4 ppg, 10.7 rpg and 1.1 bpg.

Or perhaps Kyle Korver in 2015. He earned an All-Star nod with 12.1 ppg and 4.1 rpg. What got him that All-Star selection though was the Atlanta Hawks' success that season. Arguably similar to the team success that the Cavaliers are enjoying now.
