The Warriors blew 2-0 and 3-2 leads during the series, as injuries to Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson hindered their chances of making a three-peat. Durant endured a season-ending Achilles injury during Game 5 that ruled him out for the entirety of the 2019-2020 NBA season as well.
Surprisingly, the Warriors managed to win that tie after knocking down 20 threes on the night. Klay Thompson hit seven threes during that tie, while Stephen Curry had five as the Dubs claimed a 106-105 win. It is their best game to date, with regards to their 3-point shooting in the NBA Finals.
#2 Phoenix Suns 2021 NBA Finals (20 3-pointers)
The Phoenix Suns were the latest and only third team to record 20 3-pointers in an NBA Finals game. They needed to be able to be lethal during that game as the Milwaukee Bucks were looking much more aggressive at the start. The Suns' three-point shooting helped them stay in the lead and nullify any kind of scoring runs the Bucks were able to put together.
Devin Booker tallied the most three-pointers for the side with seven, while Chris Paul, Jae Crowder and Mikal Bridges all knocked down three attempts from downtown each.
#1 Cleveland Cavaliers 2017 NBA Finals (24 3-pointers)
The Cleveland Cavaliers were one of the best three-point shooting teams between 2016 and 2018. They currently hold the record for most threes-made in an NBA Playoffs game, shooting 25 of their attempts from downtown in a 2016 Eastern Conference Semi-Finals series game against the Atlanta Hawks.
The NBA Finals record for most threes made is also held by the Cavs.
With their season on the line in Game 4 of the Finals against the Golden State Warriors in the 2017 Finals, the Cavs played one of their best games of the season. They beat the Warriors 137-116, avoiding a series sweep with the help of 24 threes and 52.9% shooting from the floor overall.
They still ended up losing the title, though, as the Warriors took the win in Game 5 and won the series 4-1.
