DeMar DeRozan: A Brief Biography
DeMar DeRozan is an American professional basketball player who plays as a shooting Guard for the Chicago Bulls in the NBA. He is currently playing his 13th season and has been a Five-time NBA All-star and three times a member of the NBA All-Team. He played nine seasons with the Toronto Raptors, including five playoff campaigns then he moved to the spurs in the summer of 2018 and the Bulls in 2021. He was chosen by the Toronto Raptors with the 9th overall pick in the first round of the 2009 NBA Draft. He is considered the best Mid-Range Shooter in the league.
Early life
DeRozan played high school basketball for the Trojans at USC while attending Compton High School. He received the McDonald's All-American and First Team Parade All-American honors for the 2008 campaign.
DeRozan went to the USC Trojans to play college basketball Before joining the NBA. He is well known for his mid-range shooting, and many people believe that he is the NBA's best mid-range shooter right now. DeRozan scored double digits for the Trojans in 28 of the 35 games he played as a sophomore. As well as being chosen to the Pac-10 All-Freshman Team, he won the Pac-10 Tournament.
He has been an NBA All-Star five times, and in 2018 and 2022, he was chosen to the All-NBA Second Team and the All-NBA Third Team, respectively.
NBA Journey
The Toronto Raptors selected him with the ninth overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. The 2013–14 campaign was a breakthrough one. He scored a career-high 22.7 points per game and added 4.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists.
DeRozan additionally contributed to the Raptors' first Atlantic Division championship in seven years. He contributed 23.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game as the Raptors fell to the Brooklyn Nets in a seven-game series during the playoffs. DeRozan averaged 20.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game in the 2016 NBA Playoffs, helping the Raptors advance to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time.
DeRozan became just the second player to accomplish this feat since Michael Jordan did it in 1987–88 during the 2016–17 season when he scored 30 or more points in nine of the first 11 games. His season-ending averages of 27.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.1 steals per game were all career highs for him. After Vince Carter's 27.6 average during the 2000–01 season, his 27.3 average was the second-highest in the history of the team. He averaged 22.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.4 steals per game in 10 playoff games.
DeRozan set a franchise mark with 52 points in the 2017–18 season, which helped the Toronto Raptors defeat the Milwaukee Bucks 131–127 in overtime. DeRozan equaled his postseason career-high 37 points against the Washington Wizards in Game 2 of the 2018 NBA Playoffs. He played in 10 postseason games, averaging 22.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 4 assists as the Toronto Raptors were swept by LeBron James' Cleveland Cavaliers. DeRozan was selected to the NBA All-NBA team twice while playing for the Raptors and was named an All-Star four times.
On July 18, 2018, In exchange for Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green, DeRozan was moved to the San Antonio Spurs in 2018 along with Jakob Pöltl and a protected first-round draft pick in 2019. He will receive $27,739,975 in salary for both the NBA seasons of 2019–20 and 2020–21. He was traded to the Chicago Bulls, where he is the second-highest-paid player, in a sign-and-trade.
