Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is a professional basketball player who has made a name for himself in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Born on February 18, 1993, in Thomaston, Georgia, Kentavious grew up alongside his family and developed a love for basketball at a young age. 'KCP' as he is normally referred to, is already a two-time NBA Champion by the age of 30.

He was a talented athlete from his college days and was even named a McDonald's All-American in 2011. The 6 foot 5 inches tall shooting guard is from Georgia and spent all of his early life in the same city.

Early Life

He attended Greenville High School where he played basketball for the school team and became a top prospect. In his senior year, he averaged 31 points per game and led his team to their first state title.

After high school, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope enrolled at the University of Georgia to play college basketball for the Bulldogs. During his two years there (2011-2013), KCP had impressive stats that earned him numerous awards including being named SEC Player of the Year in the 2012–13 season. Kentavious then entered the NBA draft after two seasons with UGA.

NBA Journey

He was drafted by the Detroit Pistons as the 8th overall pick during the 2013 NBA draft. KCP played four seasons with the Pistons before joining the Los Angeles Lakers via free agency. He signed a three-year contract worth $40 million dollars. His play began improving gradually and he quickly became a steady scorer for the Pistons.

Upon arriving in L.A., had his best year in his first season but his production fell off just a little over the next couple of years. He also started much fewer games and was relegated to a bench role as he was replaced by Josh Hart in the starting lineup.

In 2021, KCP was traded to the Washington Wizards where he stayed only one season before being traded again to the Denver Nuggets in 2022. He once again earned a starting role on the team and became an integral part of the Championship winning franchise.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has won a total of two NBA titles in his four playoff appearances. During the 2019-2020 season and in only his 2nd playoff appearance with the Los Angeles Lakers he won his first Championship alongside veterans Anthony Davis and LeBron James. During his Championship season, KCP averaged 9.3 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.6 assists during the regular season and 10.7 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.3 assists during the playoffs.

More recently, he was part of the Denver Nuggets title winning team which won the 2023 NBA Finals. He played and started 20 games for the team in which he averaged 10.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists during their extraordinary run.
