
Born on October 16, 1999 in Charleston, South Carolina, Aaron Nesmith is an American basketball player who plays for the Indiana Pacers. He plays as a small forward and was on the roster of the Boston Celtics 2022 NBA Finals run.
Nesmith played college basketball at Vanderbilt, where he emerged as one of the top shooters of his class. He averaged 23.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, shooting 52.2 percent from deep as a sophomore on 8.2 3-point attempts per game. He was ranked 10th in SEC for total 3-pointers made, despite only playing 14 games due to an injury.
In the 2020 NBA Draft, the Boston Celtics selected Nesmith with the 14th overall pick. In his two seasons with the Celtics, Nesmith played 95 games, starting only four, due to a stacked roster. He also featured in 20 games in the playoffs for the Celtics.
In the 2023/24 season, Nesmith was ranked 14th in Most Improved Player voting, averaging 12.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 0.9 steals. He also shot 49.6% from the field, including 41.9% from 3-point range, making a career-high 140 3-pointers.
For his performances in recent seasons, he was awarded a three-year $33 million contract by the Pacers in October 2023.
Aaron Nesmith Trade
In July 2022, Nesmith was traded to the Indiana Pacers by the Boston Celtics, in a deal involving Malcom Brogdon. He was part of the trade package sent by the Celtics to acquire Malcom Brogdon from the Pacers.
Since the trade, Nesmith has improved his game and has made a breakthrough in the Pacers lineup. He has played 145 games, and is averaging 11.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists, on 39.4% shooting from deep. The Pacers offensive style has helped him develop his game, making 140 threes in the 2023/24 season.
