About time! It’s known for sure that Allen will play with Ball Up during their China tour. Between October 18 and 28, Iverson will be hooping it up in four cities in China. He also wants to join a team in China, as for which team he will, that’s still up for grabs.
Iverson said: “I definitely want to return to the NBA, but if I can’t get back there, I’m hoping to play ball here in China. China is still one of my choices, but the team that wants me to join has got to show me that they really mean it, like ‘Hey, we really need you.’ “
That’s what it’s about. Detroit, Memphis and even Besiktas didn’t utilize Iverson the way he ought to have been on the floor. He is still good for 20 and 8 a night at least. His popularity in China is staggering.

He is their life!
They want to have kids with him!
Allen Iverson‘s manager Gary Moore said at an unveiling press conference of this event “This is Allen’s future home. We decided this is where he will continue his legacy, playing basketball in China. That’s why we are here. Our goal is to stay in China, enjoy the fans here, enjoy the culture and customs and learn more about it. And to be more of a friend and a partner in this country.”
Allen added “Way I do is just play as much as I can. I’m not the type of guy who likes to shoot by himself, I like to get on the court and run 5×5 or 3×3 and play with contact and take the beating that I’m used to. Obviously we want to win and be with a good organization.”
Iverson played in China a few months ago as part of a tour with the likes of Dennis Rodman in a US All stars against Chinese teams including Ma Bu Li’s (Stephon Marbury’s) Beijing Ducks. The reception he received was overwhelming. Here are the highlights of that match:
For me, getting to see Iverson in action is amazingly good news by itself. What adds icing on the cake is that he will be taking the court with another of my idols and champion of small man ball, Grayson Boucher, The Professor. Formerly of And 1 and now with Ball Up, he will be on court at the same time as Iverson. That is something which could not have happened in the NBA.
Check back in October for news and hopefully videos of this streetballer’s dream contest. Allen Iverson and The Professor.
Oh and throw this guy in the mix too, Jason Williams ‘White Chocolate’, another premium proponent of streetball in the NBA:
