One of the most promising young talents in the NBA today, Alperen Sengun is a Turkish center making waves with the Houston Rockets. Born on July 25, 2002 in Giresun, Turkey, Sengun first started playing basketball at age eight, following in the footsteps of his older brother. He joined the Bandırma Kırmızı junior team in 2018 at just 16 years old.

In 2019, he led Bandirma Kirmizi to the Turkish Junior League championship and was named the league's Most Valuable Player. The next year, at age 18, Sengun made his debut with the Teksüt Bandırma senior team in the Turkish Super League. He immediately became a standout, averaging 5.0 points and 3.9 rebounds per game.

The 2020-2021 season proved to be Sengun's real breakout year. He led Beşiktaş to the Super League championship while putting up incredible numbers, averaging 19.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.7 blocks and 1.3 steals per game.

Sengun's rapid development caught the eye of NBA scouts, and he declared for the 2021 NBA Draft. He was selected with the 16th overall pick by the Oklahoma City Thunder before being traded to the Houston Rockets. Since making his debut for the Rockets, Sengun has quickly established himself as one of the Rockets' best players.

The Turkish big man recorded his career-high on January 16, 2023, when he dropped 33 points against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Sengun dominated the Lakers' frontline all night on his way to his 33 point outburst. He shot an efficient 13-of-17 from the field, repeatedly getting deep post positions and showing his soft touch around the basket. Sengun also stepped out and knocked down two three-pointers in the game.

He also had 15 rebounds and six assists. With these stats, Sengun became the youngest player for the Rockets to record 30+ points and 10+ rebounds in a single game. He also became the youngest center in NBA history to record of 30+ points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists in a game.

At 6 feet 10 inches tall with a 7-foot wingspan, Sengun's size and length allows him to shoot over most defenders. His high release point and feathery touch make his shots difficult to contest. He complements his interior scoring skill with deft passing ability, keeping defenses off balance.
