Despite going undrafted in the NBA 2019 Draft, the Los Angeles Clippers signed a two-way contract with Amir Coffey. Coffey started his rookie season with 18 games, however, the number increased to 44 in the next season. In 2021, Coffey had an exceptional season where he also scored his career-high 32 points and contributed 7 assists and 4 steals. The 2023-24 season is marked a step forward for Coffey where he played 70 games and averaged 20 minutes of playing in every game. Coffey’s basketball career began at Hopkins High School in Minnetonka, Minnesota where he was a standout athlete in the state. The season of 2015-16 was the most impressive of his senior year, Coffey was leading his team averaging 19.9 points per game. Due to these exceptional performances, he was able to bag several achievements including the prestigious Minnesota Mr. Basketball. Moreover, Coffey was honored with the title of Associated Press State Player of the Year, as well as the Star Tribune Metro Player of the Year. Success in high school made Coffey gain a lot of attention from college recruiters all over the United States of America. He was ranked a 4-star recruit and was 32 in ESPN’s 100 list of best players in the class of 2016.
