Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves took on a major challenge on Christmas Day against the Dallas Mavericks, the team that beat them in the 2024 Western Conference finals. Minnesota has lost four of its last five games, which hasn't sat well with Edwards, a big critic of the team's recent struggles and lack of identity.

Christmas Day games can have a major impact on a team's records or a player's performances, and Edwards was hoping to make a statement against Luka Doncic and Co.

Edwards started the game with a solid first quarter, scoring eight points to lead the Timberwolves to the 26-24 lead alongside Julius Randle (eight points). Ant shot for 50% from the field and 100% from deep.

Ant added five points to his account while leading the Timberwolves' 31-point third quarter, which gave his team a 17-point advantage over the Mavericks, who barely scored 16 units ahead of halftime.

Edwards continued his good performance with seven more points in the third quarter, leading the Timberwolves to another win in the quarter and extending the team's lead to 90-68.

Edwards scored 13 more points in the second half to lead the Timberwolves to a 105-99 win.

The Dallas Mavericks took over in the fourth quarter to try to pull off a comeback, even taking the period 31-15, but it wasn't enough to beat Edwards and Co. The shooting guard didn't put numbers as spectacular as Kyrie Irving (39 points) but still contributed to his team's victory. Julius Randle followed him with 23 points and Rudy Gobert added 14 units.

Anthony Edwards has been going on his team to try to turn the season around

The Minnesota Timberwolves haven't been as strong as they were last season, only winning one more game than they've lost this campaign, looking nothing like their version in 2023-24.

Anthony Edwards has been showing his discomfort with this situation, saying the Timberwolves didn't have an identity and that they weren't putting in the effort to make a competitive squad.

They showed a much better face today, with Edwards leading the way in what could be Minnesota's resurgence. They still have playoff hopes, but they need to start winning as soon as possible.
