Asian Games 2014: Indian women basketball team to fight for fifth position

Incheon, Sep 29 (IANS) The Indian women's basketball team will be fighting it out for the fifth position after winning the semi-final game for the 5th-8th position in the 17th Asian Games at the Hwaseong Sports Complex Gymnasium here Monday.

India defeated Mongolia 68-50, leading in all the four quarters, 19-14, 33-23, 55-38, 68-50. Indian shooting guard Prashanti Singh distinguished herself, becoming the team's highest scorer with 17 points.

They now face Kazakhstan for the 5th-6th final match Wednesday. Kazakhstan beat Thailand 62-49, winning 14-18, 34-26, 45-34 and 62-49.

Earlier, India were outclassed 37-70 by Japan in the quarter-final Sunday that ended their medal hopes in the event.
