The Spurs’ Popeye, Mad Hatter, Super Mario and Buzz Lightyear at their Halloween PartyOctober 31st is celebrated as Halloween worldwide wherein traditionally kids are supposed to dress up as scary characters while they go trick or treating door-to-door in the neighborhood. However, today we see grown-ups taking Halloween costumes to a whole new level and the NBA players are the best at it. Extremely tall, muscular men make for seriously funny trick-or-treaters. However things could get weird or scary too, depending upon whom you’re talking about.
#5 Russell Adams

Russell Westbrook is definitely one of the most stylish superstars in the NBA with his own clothing line and a lot of swagger. He dressed up as George “Pornstache” Mendez from popular sitcom ‘Orange is the new black’ (recently started airing on Colors Infinity in India) a few years ago. Doing total justice to the character, Westbrook looked damn good in the correctional officer’s costume too.
This year’s Halloween party showed Westbrook dressing up as new teammate Steven Adams. Although the idea seems only okay on paper, Westbrook pulled it off really well looking remarkably like his teammate. Adams on the other hand decided to dress up as the Joker from the hospital seen in The Dark Knight.
#4 Shaqueeta
Shaquille O’Neal is inarguably the funniest guy that the NBA has ever seen. The 7-foot heavyweight decided to cross dress a few years ago becoming Shaqueeta on Halloween. He then, wearing a striped black dress, decided to roam the streets in his car with his fiance and reality TV star Nikki “Hoopz” Alexander while he lip-synched Beyonce’s lyrics.
Brave + Hilarious + Slightly Weird + Dance Moves = Shaq
Here’s a video of him showing of his moves in the car while lip-synching to Beyonce’s “Beautiful Nightmare”:
#3 Pharaoh Ibaka
Thunder Power Forward Serge Ibaka would look really good with a hot woman by his side; but throw in a couple of royal egyptian costumes and they look flawless. Hip-Hop artist Keri Hilson teamed up with Serge Ibaka last year to give us one of the best Halloween cosplays ever.
The 6’10” forward has an imposing, muscular frame which looks like he was meant to dress up as Pharaoh Akhenatan. Hilson looked gorgeous playing Queen Nefertiti alongside the dark, tall and powerful looking Pharaoh. Without a doubt, one of the best costume ideas ever.
#2 Deron Drogo
New Mavericks Point Guard Deron Williams clearly put some thought into his costume last year when he decided to play Khal Drogo from the popular Game of Thrones Franchise. He was looking for a costume idea with his wife where he could show off his beard.
It worked out well as a couples costume too as his wife (Amy Williams) dressed up as Khaleesi. With just an hour’s worth of make-up WIlliams was ready to be a Dothraki warrior. His wife looked incredible with glowing blonde hair and a dragon egg in her hand. I wonder if they know what eventually happens to Khal Drogo in the story.
#1 Lurch Nowitzki
You probably have an excellent Halloween costume in the works that is unique, smart, and well-executed. Unfortunately, it will not be better than Dirk Nowitzki's, who dressed as Lurch from The Addams Family at the Dallas Mavericks' Halloween party this year. Dirk tweeted the above image from his adorable Twitter handle, swish41.
Dirk should probably dress up as Lurch every Halloween because he carries of the look so naturally that it looks like he’s a part of the original series. Winning the Halloween cosplay already, it seems like Dirk has been Lurch in disguise all along.
